The main opposition parties have decided to form an interim government comprising all parties in Sri Lanka soon.

The announcement was made by the opposition parties on Sunday after the President and Prime Minister announced their resignations.

As Sri Lanka is facing an unprecedented economic crisis, the people are protesting demanding the resignation of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

Last Saturday, people from different parts of the country, university students and various organizations including opposition parties gathered and seized the President’s House in the capital Colombo. Prior to that, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had left there. It is not clear where he went.

In this case, a meeting of all party leaders was convened by the Speaker of the House of Parliament Mahinda Yaba Abeywadhana on Saturday. Athip Gothapaya and Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe, who participated in it, should resign immediately; He insisted that an interim government comprising all parties should be formed.

The chairman informed Principal Gothapaya about the decisions taken in that meeting. Responding to this, the Principal said that he has decided to resign on July 13.

Earlier, Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe also said that he has also decided to resign.

INTERIM GOVERNMENT: With the president and prime minister announcing their resignations, the main opposition parties resumed deliberations on the next course of action on Sunday.

In this, after the resignation of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on July 13, it was decided to form an interim government comprising all parties.

Vimal Weerawansa, a member of the disaffected faction of the ruling Sri Lankan Podujana Peramuna Party, said, ‘We have agreed in principle to form a united interim government comprising all parties’.

Another leader of the party, Vasudeva Nanayakkara, said, ‘There is no need to wait for Atip Gothapaya to resign’.

The general secretary of the main opposition party, Samaki Jana Palavekaya Party, Ranjith Mathuma Bandara said, ‘We have decided to form an interim government consisting of all parties for a certain period of time and then conduct a general election for the Parliament’.

Consultation again today: Leaders of political parties represented in Parliament will meet again on Monday (July 11) to discuss. In this, it is expected that the convening of the Parliament will be discussed.

Interim President of the House of Parliament?

It has been reported that if an interim government is established in Sri Lanka, the Speaker of the House of Parliament will be appointed as its president.

According to the Constitution of Sri Lanka, if the Chancellor resigns, the Prime Minister will act as interim Chancellor until a new Chancellor is duly elected. Now that the Prime Minister has also announced that he will resign, Speaker of Parliament Mahinda Yaba Abeywadhana will be appointed as the Interim President. After that, the MPs will vote and elect the new President.

1.78 crore rupees in the President’s house!

It has been revealed that the public who broke into the Sri Lankan President’s Palace found and seized 1.78 crores of Sri Lankan currency (Rs. 39 lakhs in Indian currency) stashed there.

The video of the protestors counting the money seized inside the President’s residence was also spread on social media. The protestors said that they are going to hand over the recovered money to the police department, the newspaper ‘Daily Mir’ published there reported.

Thousands of people gathered at the President’s House on Sunday for the second day. Videos of them taking a bath in the swimming pool, exercising in the gym and sitting on the seats were released on social media.

The army is requested to keep the peace of the people

Chief of Army Staff Shavendra Silva appealed to the protesting people in Sri Lanka to maintain peace.

Protesters who captured the President’s House in Sri Lanka also set fire to Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe’s residence on Saturday night.

In this case, Chief of Army Staff Shavendra Silva said in a statement issued on Sunday:

There is an opportunity to find a peaceful solution to the current crisis in the country. Therefore, he said that all the public should cooperate with the armed forces and the police department to maintain peace.

Gotabaya’s urgent order

It was reported on Sunday on behalf of the Director General’s Office that the Director General has directed the officials to ensure that the 3,700 metric tons of cooking gas that has arrived in Sri Lanka is distributed to the public in a smooth manner.
