International Convention for the Protection of Marine Life in International Watersheds

by time news

Washington: The nations of the world have agreed to protect marine life in international waters. The UN rules on marine life have been in force since 1994. The protection of marine life in international waters, i.e. the sea area beyond the jurisdiction of any country, has been discussed in the UN for more than 20 years. Because the international sea area is not under the control of any country, it is polluted by commercial fishing, chemicals and plastic.

During monsoons, lakhs of marine life including dolphins, whales, sea turtles and rare fish migrate from the national waters to the international waters. This agreement of current UN member states will create protected areas in international waters to protect marine life. Through this, not only the marine life but also the people involved in the marine industry and tourism sector will be protected.
