International cooperation between Japan and Ecuador strengthens medical equipment in 10 hospitals in the country – Ministry of Public Health

The Ministry of Public Health (MSP) during the years 2022 and 2023 received from the government of Japan a donation of 10 tomographs delivered in different establishments nationwide. The official reception delivery event was held on June 1, 2023 at the San Vicente de Paul Hospital, located in Ibarra, Imbabura province.

«This equipment is part of a project with Japanese cooperation that benefits users of 10 general hospitals in the country. “We thank the people of Japan on behalf of the Ecuadorian people for the support they are giving us,” said José Ruales, Minister of Health.

The 10 CT scanners are installed and operating normally in the General Macas Hospital, General Isidro Ayora Hospital in Loja, Abel Gilbert Pontón Specialty Hospital, and Francisco Icaza Bustamante Pediatric Hospital in Guayaquil, Baca Ortiz Pediatric Hospital in Quito, San Vicente de Paul in Ibarra, and Enrique Ortega Moreira. from Durán, José María Velasco Ibarra in Tena, Verdi Cevallos Balda in Portoviejo and Teacher from Ambato.

MORISHITA Keiichiro, ambassador of the Government of Japan, stated that he was pleased to attend the delivery of medical equipment within the framework of cooperation to Ecuador. “Thanks to everyone’s efforts, the process of acquiring high-quality equipment was completed. It is essential to strengthen the health system.”

The cooperation of the government of Japan counted on the installation of equipment, tests of operation and training of personnel for the optimal operation of the tomographs. These equipments allow for fully digital high-quality diagnostic and detailed images that make immediate diagnosis possible for timely treatment of the patient.

The Minister mentioned that this State portfolio works to strengthen hospital equipment and health centers that include laboratory equipment, X-rays, among others that improve diagnostic capabilities.

He pointed out that this new equipment has the capacity to supply the demand of patients, avoiding referrals to the private sector. He also added that the delivery of two advanced life support ambulances to the San Vicente de Paul Hospital is planned. “We are committed to the health and well-being of the population,” concluded the health authority.

The Ministry of Public Health strengthens joint actions with cooperating countries to guarantee the Ecuadorian population decent access to quality health care services.
