International Day: ICESCO reaffirms its commitment to strengthening the role of sport in social inclusion, development and peace

Rabat – The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) reaffirmed, Friday, its commitment to strengthening the role of sport as a catalyst for social inclusion, development and strengthening of values ​​of coexistence and peace, on the occasion of the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, celebrated on April 6 each year.

Placed under the theme “Sport for the promotion of peaceful and inclusive societies”, this day is intended to be an opportunity to emphasize the role of sport and physical activity in consolidating the values ​​of coexistence between societies. across the world, indicates ICESCO on its website, calling on the international community to concerted efforts to exploit sport in building inclusive societies capable of resisting crises.

Aware of the strength of sport in promoting the values ​​of dialogue, creativity and international cooperation, ICESCO launched the “Sport for societal change” initiative, as well as the “Sports Diplomacy” and “Young Volunteers” programs. internationals in sport. The Organization also held its 1st Forum on: “Women in Sport”, to discuss the importance of strengthening women’s participation in sport and encouraging girls to become leaders in this field.

Note that the last two editions of the ICESCO Marathon in Rabat saw the participation of more than a thousand runners of all ages, including people with specific needs, to underline the importance of exploiting sport in the improving physical and mental health, as well as achieving well-being and prosperity in the Islamic world.

ICESCO’s program for the rehabilitation of street children through football aims to combat social inequalities, support children’s rights, and exploit sport to combat violence and provide these children from safe spaces.
