jpnn.comJAKARTA – Deputy Chairman of Commission III DPR RI Moh. Rano Alfath appreciated the East Java Regional Police for uncovering an international online gambling syndicate that used social media and fictitious companies to launder money.
Rano views this success as a concrete step by the National Police in dealing with cybercrime which is increasingly complex and has a wide impact.
“I would like to express my respect and appreciation to the East Java Regional Police, especially my friends from the East Java Regional Police’s Special Crimes and Crime Sub-Directorate for Cyber, who have worked hard to dismantle this highly organized syndicate. “This step not only succeeded in stopping the circulation of very large amounts of illicit money, but also sent a strong message that the National Police is here to protect society and fight global threats like this,” said Rano, Friday (13/12).
Rano also highlighted the effectiveness of the National Police’s policy by adding Cyber Directorates in eight Regional Police, including the East Java Regional Police, in dealing with cyber crime.
“The National Police Chief’s move to add Cyber Directorates to eight Polda has proven effective and meets expectations. This case is clear evidence that the existence of a strong and well-trained cyber unit is capable of dealing with high-tech crimes quickly and accurately,” he said.
According to Rano, crimes such as online gambling and money laundering are not much different from the threat of drugs, because they both damage the social, economic and legal aspects of society.
“This type of crime typology is developing rapidly. Perpetrators are increasingly smart and innovative in exploiting technological loopholes to hide their crimes. “The police must continue to develop strategies to always be one step, even two steps ahead of them,” he stressed.
He also added that disclosures like this must be on the national agenda, considering the very large scale of losses, both in terms of the economy and state security.
