The excellent security climate that El Salvador has experienced since 2019, thanks to President Nayib Bukele, who with his initiatives has drastically reduced rates of social violence, inherited from government administrations that only strengthened terrorist groups with soft policies, positioning the country in the international arena as a benchmark in the matter.
Costa Rica’s largest circulation newspaper, Diario Extra, highlighted on its front page that El Salvador is safer than its own country, where crime has increased. In the article published by the newspaper “Diario Extra,” they detail that the former security ministers of their country agree with President Nayib Bukele when he says that we are the safest country on the American continent.
On the other hand, another Central American newspaper, El Heraldo de Honduras, in an investigation highlights the construction of the mega prison, Centro de Confineamiento del Terrorismo (CECOT), also highlighting it as the “Bukele model” and this has led to the confinement and imprisonment of more than thousands of gang members.
Likewise, REPRETEL journalist from Costa Rica, Kathia Cárdenas made a special report, entitled “From a dangerous country to a benchmark in Security“, which highlights how the country has gone from being a hotbed of organized violence to one of the safest places in Latin America.
Repretel News traveled to that country and confirmed the changes and pending issues, which we show you in a special report. President Nayib Bukele’s popularity is sky-high, but there are still pending issues such as heavy traffic congestion, garbage problems, and poverty.
