Young and old, cinema enthusiasts and lovers enjoy an open-air screening under the stars for five days, an original and powerful concept that aims to bring cinema closer to the inhabitants of this locality nestled in the peaks of Azilal.

As part of this program, the greatest Moroccan cinematic successes are screened every day after dark to the delight of film buffs, families and tourists to the sumptuous Ouzoud waterfalls.

This unique experience where the Sawt Al Jabal Foundation for Heritage and Sustainable Development shows the most legendary Moroccan films as part of an approach that aims to democratize access to cinema for the benefit of the inhabitants of this predominantly mountainous area.

Entire families storm the Ouzoud square where a beautiful poster of Moroccan films is shown, such as “Lalla Houbi”, “Al milliard”, “Histoire d’un lutteur mchaouch” and many others.

In a statement to MAP, several spectators expressed their satisfaction with this commendable initiative of the Sawt Al Jabal Foundation for Heritage and Sustainable Development which offered them the opportunity to discover exceptional cinematographic masterpieces, recalling that this unique experience takes this small town out of its routine and contributes to the revitalization of economic and commercial dynamics in addition to its role in accelerating development and creating new sources of growth.

According to the organizers, the objective of this laudable initiative is to integrate the Béni Mellal-Khénifra region and more particularly the province of Azilal into a positive dynamic by using cinema as an economic lever.

The organization of this Festival takes place in a context marked by the water crisis which requires rethinking innovative solutions to ensure good governance in terms of water resource management but also to identify strategic alternatives likely to promote the development of this rural community.

The second edition of the International Mountain Cinema Festival opened last Tuesday in Ouzoud, with the participation of a fine selection of Moroccan and foreign filmmakers.

Organized from September 3 to 7 at the initiative of the Sawt Al Jabal Foundation for Heritage and Sustainable Development in partnership with the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, the region of Béni Mellal-Khénifra and the Moroccan Cinematographic Center, this cultural event aims to be an opportunity to bring cinema closer to the population in this region with a rich heritage, but where the artistic offering remains limited.

The 2nd edition of this festival, which aims to promote the 7th art as a lever for local economic and social development, is part of the High Royal Guidelines aimed at promoting and protecting Morocco’s cultural heritage, raising public awareness of environmental issues and the need to preserve natural heritage, and promoting sustainable development initiatives in rural areas throughout the Kingdom.

The Festival will offer a varied program over five days, including a film competition, open-air screenings in the public square of Ouzoud, as well as conferences and masterclasses led by film professionals and renowned directors.

The official competition will see the screening of feature films, short films and documentaries of international renown, in the presence of prestigious guests from Africa, Europe and Asia.
