The International Olympic Committee (IOC) responded to the protest letter from the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan and the National Olympic Committee.

As the head of the ministry’s public relations department Gabil Mehdiyev told İdman.biz, the IOC apologized to Azerbaijan for the statements made by a France 2 TV channel correspondent during his commentary on the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games.

The letter states that such words are contrary to the principles and values promoted by the International Olympic Committee through sport and the Olympic Games. Therefore, the institutions and persons responsible for this issue were contacted and they were reminded of the IOC’s operating principle and protocols in order to avoid similar situations in the future.

Mehdiyev said that, taking into account the biased position of France 2 TV channel, the broadcaster of the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris, towards our country and the letter of apology from the International Olympic Committee to Azerbaijan, they expect the French government to officially apologize to Azerbaijan.
