/ Human Rights Watch, on Tuesday, condemned Israel’s use of “hunger” as a weapon against Palestinian children in the Gaza Strip.
In a report seen by Agency, the organization mentioned the story of the child Nour Al-Huda (11 years old), who suffers from cystic fibrosis, who was admitted to Kamal Adwan Hospital on March 15, where the doctors there told her mother that she was suffering from malnutrition, dehydration, and inflammation of the kidneys. Her lungs, and supplied her with oxygen and saline.
Her mother told Human Rights Watch, “Nour al-Huda now weighs 18 kilograms. I can see that her chest is protruding.”
The organization’s director of Israel and Palestine affairs, Omar Shaker, said, “It has been proven that the Israeli government’s use of starvation as a weapon of war kills children in Gaza. Israel must end this war crime and allow humanitarian aid to reach all parts of Gaza without obstacles.”
Last March, Human Rights Watch conducted interviews with a doctor who was volunteering in northern Gaza and had since left the Strip, and with the parents of two infants who the doctors said had died due to complications related to hunger in both the mother and the child, and the families of four other children suffering from hunger and poor health. Nutrition and dehydration.
The organization reviewed the death certificate of one of the children, and two photos of two children in critical condition, showing signs of emaciation. All of them were treated at Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahia in the northern Gaza Strip.
The head of the pediatrics unit at Kamal Adwan Hospital, Dr. Hossam Abu Safiya, said on April 4 that “26 children died after suffering complications related to hunger in the hospital where he works alone.”
He added, “At least 16 of the children who died were less than five months old, and at least 10 were between one and eight years old. A 73-year-old man suffering from malnutrition also died.”
