International project Galileo will look for traces of extraterrestrial life and technology

by time news

On Monday, July 26, a group of astrophysicists at Harvard University presented a project called Galileo, which will search for extraterrestrial technology. Researchers from other countries will take part in the Galileo Project, who, using modern observatories and telescopes, will examine asteroids of unusual shapes and other extraterrestrial objects in order to find technosignatures there – measurable properties or effects that can scientifically prove the existence of technology now or in the past. … The project also involves the American company Bruker Corp., a manufacturer of equipment for space research.

The main goal of the project is to “search for traces of technology of extraterrestrial origin by collecting and analyzing fragmentary data from various observatories to create a more holistic and reliable scientific research.” Scientists will also pay special attention to newly discovered exoplanets to search for extraterrestrial life or traces of it. According to media reports, in the last two weeks alone, the Galileo Project has raised $ 1.75 million in donations.
