Washington: Russia has announced its withdrawal from the International Space Station program.
In 1998, 11 countries from America, Russia, Japan, Canada and Europe jointly started the project to build the International Space Station. The member countries are carrying out various studies in the International Space Station, which is positioned at a distance of 400 km from the Earth.
In this case, Yuri Borisov, Director General of the Russian space research agency Roscosmos, has announced that Russia has decided to withdraw from the International Space Program after 2024. Russia’s announcement has come as a surprise as the US and Russia have recently signed an agreement to have astronauts travel on each other’s spaceships.
Meanwhile, the American space research agency ‘NASA’ said that ‘no report regarding the breach of contract has come from Russia’. NASA has also said that the International Space Station will operate until 2030.
Since the United States and Russia have equal shares in the operation of this space station, Russia cannot easily secede. Russia is also said to reverse its decision if the US lifts sanctions on two of its companies.
