Initiated in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, this conference is part of the commemoration by the international community of the 70th anniversary of the adoption in 1954 of the Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict, indicates a press release from the National Commission of National Humanitarian Law, stressing that the Kingdom is a stakeholder in this convention, which constitutes a reference framework for the protection of cultural heritage.

This meeting is also part of the particular interest that Morocco grants to the preservation of the national cultural and civilizational heritage in terms of protection, restoration, maintenance and enhancement, and the Kingdom’s permanent commitment to the protection and promotion of the system of international humanitarian law, adds the same source.

The symposium aims to discuss the challenges related to the implementation of the protection of cultural heritage in humanitarian crisis situations, to review international good practices and means of international collaboration in order to protect cultural property in emergency situations, as well as to highlight national efforts deployed in this regard, in particular the Moroccan experience, according to the press release.

It is also about formulating a collective institutional response to the questions raised regarding the effectiveness of the protection and preservation of cultural property in zones of armed conflict and in situations of other humanitarian crises, as well as presenting innovative solutions to support international efforts aimed at ensuring the preservation of the cultural and civilizational heritage of countries.

The work of this international meeting will be attended by experts and national and international actors specializing in the field of international humanitarian law and the protection of cultural heritage, as well as representatives of international organizations involved in this field, in particular UNESCO and the International Committee of the Red Cross.

The conference will also be marked by the presence of representatives of government departments and national institutions concerned, magistrates, parliamentarians and representatives of United Nations agencies, academics, as well as civil society associations.
