The first Test match between England and New Zealand is being played at Lord’s Ground in London.
New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat first. New Zealand were bowled out for 132 in the first innings. England, who played later, lost the first innings by 141 runs.
New Zealand, who started the second innings 9 runs behind, were bowled out for 285. Following this, Joe Root, who played well for England, set a target of 277 for victory and scored 115 not out. England won the first Test by 5 wickets.
Joe Root, who scored a century in this match, has joined the list of players who have scored over 10,000 runs in international Test cricket. He also became the first Englishman to score 17,000 runs in international cricket.
Alastair Cook, who previously captained the England team, became the first England player to score 10,000 runs in Test cricket. India’s Sunil Gavaskar became the first cricketer to reach the 10,000-run milestone in Test cricket.
