The United Nations mission called for calm and reducing tension in Tripoli, stressing that dialogue is the only solution to all contentious issues.

In a statement, the mission expressed its deep concern over reports of a troop buildup in the capital, considering it a threat to use force to resolve the crisis surrounding the Central Bank of Libya.

The UN mission indicated that it is communicating intensively with all parties to reach a peaceful agreement to resolve the crisis regarding the Central Bank, according to it.

The UN mission stressed that the display of military force and armed confrontations in populated neighborhoods is unacceptable and threatens the lives, security and tranquility of civilians, it said.

The mission expressed that these moves cannot produce a solution, but rather are an additional reason that exacerbates the crisis and reduces the chances of reaching a political solution, according to its statement.

For its part, the US Embassy in Libya expressed its concern over reports of possible clashes in Tripoli, calling on all parties to calm down immediately and avoid violence.

The US embassy said that trying to resolve the central bank crisis by force is unacceptable and will have dire consequences for the integrity of this institution and the stability of the country, according to it.

The embassy added that resolving the central bank crisis by force has potentially serious repercussions on Libya’s position in the international financial system, calling on all actors to engage in a serious dialogue among all stakeholders on the fair distribution of wealth, according to it.

Oil paper waving

For his part, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, threatened to close the oil, saying that they would not allow its revenues to go to untrustworthy hands, according to him.

Saleh said that the House of Representatives does not derive its legitimacy from the political agreement, but rather from the constitutional declaration, and it will remain until a new House of Representatives is elected, according to him.

Saleh pointed out that the Presidential Council does not have any powers according to the political agreement, and it is not the head of state, as he put it.

“Dialogue is the solution”

In turn, the member of the Presidential Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi, stressed that there is no room today for returning to fighting or conflict to achieve gains or fulfil rights.

Al-Lafi said that the only way, with no other choice, is dialogue that leads to agreements that contribute to saving the country, stressing the unity and stability of the country and that national partnership is the way to enhance the desired justice, according to him.
