Women’s Day, as it is seen today, gained global attention in 1975 when the United Nations recognized March 8 as International Women’s Day. But even before this, March 8 was celebrated as Women’s Day. With the approval of the United Nations, it became more popular and celebrated with a special theme.

The UN has declared “Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow” as the theme for International Women’s Day 2022. Usually Purple Day is used all over the world to mark Women’s Day. When the theme of gender equality is upheld today for a sustainable future, the idea of gender equality has emerged. It is imperative that we know the history of the world towards Women’s Day.
Although Yun recognized Women’s Day in 1975, the journey began years ago in New York. That too from a labor march of 1500 women. The rally was organized by women to demand working hours, wages and the right to vote. Later, the American Socialist Party declared National Women’s Day.

International Women’s Day was conceived by Clara Seatkin, a communist activist and leader of the women’s rights movement, at the 1910 International Conference of Women Workers in Copenhagen. Thus, in 1911, International Women’s Day was celebrated for the first time. Later, on March 8, 1917, in Petrograd, Russia, a women’s struggle for food and peace was considered the most important day in the history of Women’s Day. The rally was considered by women to be the first stage of the Russian Revolution.
