The goal of the federal government: By 2030, every household in Germany should have such ultra-fast access. The telecommunications industry likes to agree here. In its market analysis of the current status of fiber optic expansion, the Federal Association of Broadband Communications (Breko) sees Germany “on the right track”. This means that fiber optic connections right into the building or apartment are available for 17.3 million households, companies and public institutions – more than a third of Germany.

But that is only the half truth. Because the numbers do not reflect the number of fiber optic connections.
