The most extensive power supply interruptions were recorded in the city and district of Bauska.
“Sadales tīkls” is working in an intensified mode in order to restore electricity supply to customers as soon as possible. During a storm, residents are asked to be careful in the vicinity of overhead power lines and other electrical infrastructure, the safest place is to take shelter indoors, according to the representatives of “Sadales netas”.
According to the information of the Latvian Center for Environment, Geology and Meteorology (LVĜMC), thunderstorms with wind gusts of 20-24 meters per second reached Latvia today, but in the middle of the country even up to 30 meters per second, very heavy rains, and in some places hail.
LVĜMC has announced a red thunderstorm warning in the central part of the country, and an orange warning in the western and eastern parts of the country. “Sadales tīkls” follows meteorologists’ forecasts and works in an intensified mode to promptly prevent power supply disturbances. Where possible, electricity supply to customers is immediately restored via backup power lines – even before damage is repaired.
Representatives of the “Distribution Network” explain that damage to the electrical network is caused by fallen trees and branches in overhead lines, as well as lightning discharges.
At the same time, “Sadales tīkls” emphasizes that it is not safe to be outside during a storm, especially in the vicinity of overhead power lines and other electrical devices. Also, do not approach power lines if there are trees, branches or broken power lines.
It is necessary to report such dangerous situations to “Sadales nettos” by calling the 24-hour free damage reporting phone number 8404, or to the State Fire and Rescue Service by calling 112.
It has already been reported that “Sadales tīkls” worked with an audited turnover of 343.332 million euros in 2023, which is 14% more than the year before, and the company also made a profit of 16.906 million euros, as opposed to losses a year earlier.
“Sadales tīkls” is an electricity network maintainer and developer in Latvia, part of the state-owned “Latvenergo” concern. The company provides operation, renovation and planned development of distribution networks, monitoring of electricity consumption, loss reduction measures and electricity accounting, as well as creates new connections.
