A major project to restore the damage to the 5th provincial road of Ioannina, better known as Vlachostrata, will be undertaken by the Region of Epirus, with the Regional Committee giving the green light at its meeting today.

The project has a budget of 185,000 euros and will be done with the urgent procedure, due to the condition of the road, which Epirus regional governor Alekos Kahrimanis described as dangerous for drivers, due to the many potholes on the road surface.
Mr. Kahrimanis described Vlachostrata as an “orphan”, saying that normally its maintenance should be undertaken jointly by the Municipalities of Ioannita and Zitsa, but, since they do not do so, the Region comes to intervene in the interests of citizens’ safety . “We will do the maintenance, we are not taking ownership”, however, said Mr. Kahrimanis, referring to a road that was not built to all specifications.

The Region of Epirus will also intervene on the Katara road, which has been abandoned by the state since 2008, when the Milia-Krania road was used as an operational part of the Egnatia Road.
The Regional Committee approved the expenditure of 25,000 euros for the execution of the required maintenance works.
