Be it his first film ‘Aamir’ or ‘No One Killed Jessica’ or ‘Raid’, director Rajkumar Gupta has always come up with stories that are out of the box. In this series, in his first web series ‘Pill’, he has brought out the dark truth of companies that play with people’s lives by making fake medicines.
Medicines are a part of everyone’s life
Talking about making a series on this subject, he says, ‘This is such a topical subject on which not many shows have been made. However, medicines are a part of all our lives. We all take medicines. Imagine, if the company making the medicine is compromising in making it or is not taking care of the quality, how big a health issue it can be. Therefore, we felt that this is a good subject, it should be explored.’ Did you have to face any kind of challenge or opposition from the pharma lobby while making it? On this, he says, ‘There was no opposition, because we have only questioned those who do not follow the standards. We keep hearing, raids are conducted on pharmaceutical companies, companies are closed, we have talked about them. The challenge for us was how to make it in a good way. This is my first OTT project, so we did a lot of research.’
Abhishek Banerjee said- People used to say looking at me, Murari, go ahead and become a hero, people don’t consider an actor a common man
Stree 2 Box Office Day 2: ‘Stree 2’ crossed 100 crores in just two days, the film became an all-time blockbuster
‘Ajay sir is an intelligent superstar’
‘Pill’ is also the debut web series of actor Riteish Deshmukh. On casting Riteish, he says, ‘Riteish has always seemed like a very good actor to me. He has mostly been doing good positive roles, so I thought that some anti-type casting should be done for him. Therefore, he also enjoyed it a lot. It is my good fortune that I have got the opportunity to work with big and great actors, be it Vidya Balan, Rani Mukerji, Ajay Devgan sir or the rest of the actors with whom I have worked. After ‘Raid’ with Ajay Devgan, he is now bringing ‘Raid 2’. On the experience of working with Ajay, he says, Ajay sir is a very honest and intelligent actor and is a superstar. Just like he was in the first ‘Raid’, I have worked with the same hard work and intelligence this time as well, so I had the same fun with him as before.’
‘Trying to understand AI’
These days, there is a lot of discussion about AI technology in the film industry. Regarding its advantages and disadvantages, Rajkumar Gupta believes, ‘Every invention has both good and bad. AI is still very new. Right now we are all trying to find out what can be done with it. What are its advantages and disadvantages. But it is also true that AI is today’s reality. This is just the beginning. We are also investigating about it. Once it becomes stable, then only the whole thing can happen. But like computers or social media, this is also a reality. I have not adopted it yet, but I will definitely see in the future how it helps in storytelling.’
