Actress Pratibha Ranta, who won hearts as Jaya in ‘Mr. Perfectionist’ Aamir Khan’s film ‘Laapta Ladies’, is now a part of Bollywood shoemaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s debut web series ‘Hiramandi’. Although Pratibha’s role in this series is small, she considers this opportunity of working with Bhansali as a big experience for her. Not only this, she also dreams of becoming Bhansali’s lead heroine one day.
Small role with Sanjay Sir is also important
Talking about joining ‘Hiramandi’, Pratibha says, ‘When you do an amazing film like ‘Laapta Ladies’, you want to choose your next project very thoughtfully. I want to do similar work where I can challenge myself, so I was thinking what to do next. Meanwhile, I got a call for the audition of ‘Hiramandi’, so I thought that I should do ‘Hiramandi’, because Sanjay Leela Bhansali sir is making it, it has such a big cast. Even if my role is small, it doesn’t matter. I will get experience by working with such a big cast. In this, I am playing the role of Sanjeeda Sheikh’s daughter and I knew that my character is small, but I was happy that I became a part of a project of Sanjay sir which I had thought about since childhood.

So is Pratibha’s bucket list of working with Bhansali completed?
On this she says, ‘No, this list will be completed only when I work as a lead actress in a film with Sanjay sir. It was just an experience for me.
How was your first meeting with Bhansali?
Pratibha Ranta had given audition for ‘Hiramandi’
At the same time, about her meeting with Bhansali, she told, ‘When I went to meet Sir for the first time, I was very scared, because I had heard a lot about him, but he is very sweet. He asked do you know dance? So I told that sir, I am a trained dancer. Then even on the set their energy is different, everyone gives their best, due to which magic is created in every frame.
Did TV show just for money
Pratibha started her acting career with the TV show ‘Kurbaan Hua’. Then how did you reach films directly after a single TV show? Regarding this he said, ‘My dream was always films. I was doing TV shows just for money, because I had to establish myself financially. When I decided to come from Shimla to Mumbai and become an actor, my parents were not sure that I would be able to make a career in it, so I did TV shows thinking that when I become financially strong, I would be able to win the trust of my family. I got very good money in TV and when I stood on my feet financially, I decided that now I will do what I had come to Mumbai for. Now I will not do TV shows for some time. I will only audition for web shows and films.
‘It is very important to start over’
‘I took this decision only then I got a chance to audition for ‘Missing Ladies’. That was my first audition. I myself did not expect that I would get the film but as soon as I reached home in the evening, I got a call that you have been selected. I believe it is very important to start over. If I had not taken the risk of leaving TV, I would not have been here. Once we start, doors start opening on their own. Whereas when I was doing TV, I was in a very comfortable zone. I was getting very good money but if you keep doing TV shows one after the other then the creative satisfaction gets lost, which is very important for me. So I took that risk and it benefited me a lot.
Spent my first earning in visiting Mumbai
Pratibha also tells us about her first earning. According to Pratibha, ‘My first earning was Rs 10,000, which I got for a brand shoot. I remember I became very happy, I could not understand what to do with 10 thousand rupees? At that time I had just come to Mumbai, so I set out to tour the whole of Mumbai and spent all my money on it. That was a great feeling. It felt like Mumbai welcomed me very well.
