Our guest today is a former Senior Executive of the French Michelin Group,
specializing in motors, electronics and energy issues. OUR
guest who has been staying regularly in Benin for fifteen years has made us
honor to answer the following questions:

Question N°1: Can you introduce yourself?
I am Gérard COLOMB, I am 77 years old and I am retired from Michelin Establishments. I have been
forklift operator, production machine operator, OS in maintenance then specialized worker,
team leader, foreman, department head and finally, I was a member for 20 years
design office in the plant modernization group. In order to access these positions I have
followed courses and training with diploma.

Question N°2: As a specialist in energy issues, can you
briefly explain what hydrogen is?
Hydrogen is the first molecule that made up our universe

Question N°3: How is hydrogen produced?
Several methods exist to produce hydrogen such as air, gas, oil and
the last from the water molecule.

Question N°4: Is this resource available in West Africa and
especially in Benin?

This UAE resource is available in Africa and particularly in Benin.

Question N°5: Some claim that contrary to those who think that
hydrogen would be the fuel of the future, what is your opinion?

In 2018 at the Lyon International Motor Show (France) Renault exhibited two vehicles
powered by hydrogen, range of 1,600 KLM. Rockets operate at
hydrogen. The hydrogen of the future will be made from water and
its molecule will be separated from electric energy of solar and
wind turbine (“green” hydrogen)

Question N°6: What is the difference between “hydrogen” and “hydrogen
vert » ?

“Green” hydrogen has no influence on climate change.

Question N°7: How do we store “hydrogen”?
Storage is carried out in tanks similar to rocket tanks

Question N°8: How to produce electricity from hydrogen?
The water molecule is separated (hydrogen and oxygen) by electrolysis. Hydrogen
can be stored in two forms (liquid or gaseous). This hydrogen is sent to
a FUEL CELL that produces electricity.

Question N°9: The investment required to install a plant from
of hydrogen lower than that required for a solar power plant?

About five years ago: 1 kW produced by solar panels cost 1. €. The cost
of an industrial complex from water will depend on the number of cubic meters
hydrogen produced. It is necessary to count around a billion € with the development
you port

Question N°10: What prospects does Benin offer in terms of hydrogen?
The prospects for Benin are excellent. Among the natural resources available to Benin is hydrogen or dihydrogen (H2). It appears as an invisible and odorless gas. Of all the chemical elements, it is the lightest. It is also the most abundant chemical element in the universe. On Earth, it is rarely present in its pure state, but it is part of the composition of water and hydrocarbons. In this interview, Gérard COLOMB, former Senior Executive of the French Michelin Group, specializing in engines, electronics and energy issues, discusses the opportunities offered by hydrogen for Benin.
