Introducing the reMarkable Paper Pro: A Premium E-Reader for Professional Use

by time news

The American company has just unveiled its new large-format e-reader, the reMarkable Paper Pro.

This new device is obviously focused on work and the dematerialization of paper in businesses. It features an 11.8-inch large-format color electronic ink screen and a stylus that allows for working (annotating, highlighting, handwritten text entry, etc.).

The design has been revamped, drawing inspiration from California standards, much like what the Apple brand offers.

The display is referred to as “Canvas color 3.0” and presents itself as a new screen that is even closer to that of paper.

Besides the stylus, an integrated keyboard in a protective case is also featured. Together (reMarkable + stylus + keyboard), it is meant to suit most text entry activities in businesses, such as creating reports or editing documents.

There is also integrated lighting, although it does not seem to offer any color temperature adjustment – this will need to be confirmed later.

Emphasis is still placed on the software with a complete suite of applications designed to be efficient and simple to use. It seems that great importance has been placed on preventing this digital device from becoming a distraction from the work that needs to be done. It will be interesting to see how this is manifested, but it is clear that the Android e-readers we know today do so many things that they can become significant distractions for their users.

In practical terms, this reMarkable Paper Pro does not allow for writing or checking emails or using social media.

Compared to older models, this reMarkable Paper Pro offers a better writing experience that is even closer to that of writing on paper. This is likely true in terms of feel, but there is still some latency between the use of the stylus and the ink display on the screen. However, the company claims a 40% more responsive display compared to the reMarkable 2.

Regarding color rendering, initial images show something very convincing. It is difficult to draw conclusions without having this machine in hand, but one can assume that the color rendering is very close to that of a Kaleido 3 screen from E Ink.

According to early information, this reMarkable Paper Pro is a second option in the reMarkable range. Thus, the reMarkable 2 (released in 2020) remains in the catalog at a softer price than this new color screen version.

The price is quite high, but one must not forget that it is primarily a professional tool. Therefore, you will need to spend €649 for the reMarkable tablet with the basic stylus.

Additionally, you will need to add €50 for the Pro stylus, €99 for the basic cover, and €249 for the cover with a keyboard.

In short, it’s expensive, and then you will also have to pay a monthly subscription to back up your documents in the cloud at the price of €2.99/month.

Notably, something very interesting: it seems that the screen used is a Gallery 3, which is different from the Kaleido 3 used in competing e-readers from Vivlio or Kobo. Moreover, this is the type of screen that Amazon is expected to use for its future color e-reader…
