An investigation was opened after the alleged rape of an Irish supporter on the night of Sunday to Monday in Bordeaux, where the XV au Clover played its first World Cup match on Saturday, Agence France-Presse learned (AFP ) to the public prosecutor’s office.
The events took place in a street in the historic center of the city “around midnight”according to the victim, who was “found in the street by a group of Welsh supporters”.
The Irish supporter was then heard in the accommodation she was renting in the neighborhood “by Irish police officers who were providing reinforcement in town” this weekend, during the Ireland-Romania match which took place the day before. Bordeaux hosted a second match of the 2023 World Cup on Sunday evening between Wales and Fiji.
Attacked by “several perpetrators”
According to the victim’s statements, she was sexually assaulted “by several authors”, who then fled. An investigation was opened, entrusted to departmental security.
The victim was immediately taken care of by the Bordeaux emergency reception center for assault victims and a victim support association, “in English”.
Biological samples have been taken and others are also underway on his clothes. The images from the neighborhood’s video protection cameras are also being studied in order to find the perpetrators, again according to the prosecution.
