The president of the National Commission for Judicial Discipline, Alfonso Cajiao, ordered the opening of an investigation into a case of abuse in the workplace that came to light in the last few hours, by a Forensic Medical officer against his subordinates.

The complaint, which came to light through the media, forced the Disciplinary Commission to certify copies to the Bogotá Division, so that they could investigate the sensitive situation that was occurring at the main headquarters of Forensic Medicine, in the capital the country.

The Commission’s declaration shows that “it was aware of the alleged invasion of disciplinary offences, due to a news article published by several media outlets”.

For that case, recorded on video, and recorded in the middle of a meeting of Forensic Medicine officers, copies were confirmed to carry out a disciplinary investigation of the person seen in the images, in an apparent case of abuse in the workplace.

In the order, the Commission detailed: “I immediately ask the distribution to investigate the published material. I am grateful that, as soon as the distribution has been made, you have informed me of the file number and the number of the magistrate who issued it.”

This case of labor abuse reminded Colombia of the case of the prosecutor Carlos Ricardo Gaitán Bazurto, who committed suicide last April when he jumped out of a window on the sixth floor of the entity’s building in Girardot, Cundinamarca.

Moments before the sensitive situation occurred, the judicial officer left a note saying “I’m sorry, I’m very late for work.”

People close to the former prosecutor said that he had reported a series of health problems before the fateful event, due to an overload of work and the stress of the amount of work he put into his role as a prosecutor.

This case generated a reaction from many unions in the judicial branch against the overload of work on officers and employees, as well as the lack of support for mental health issues.

For this reason, the leadership of the Attorney General’s Office appointed a special interdisciplinary team made up of psychiatrists and doctors who will, as a first step, interview the family members of the prosecutor, as well as his colleagues.
