The prosecution announced the opening of a criminal investigation in flagrante for an attempted fire on the night of July 1 to 2. The home of the mayor of La Riche, a town of 11,000 inhabitants near Tours, was targeted. “The facts can be described as degradation by arson and invasion of domicile,” the prosecutor of the Republic of Tours, Catherine Sorita-Minard, told AFP on Sunday, specifying that ten years of imprisonment were incurred.

Around 1:30 a.m., according to a town hall official who does not want to disclose her name because of threats from rioters, “entered the mayor’s garden to start setting fire” to his vehicle. The mayor “intervened very quickly: it could have been dramatic,” added this source.

On Twitter, the prefecture of Indre-et-Loire denounced these facts. “Last night, rioters tried to set fire to the vehicle of the mayor of La Riche. The rapid intervention of the police made it possible to avoid damage, ”also specified the prefecture, indicating that the prefect and the prosecutor had come to support the elected official.

On the night of Thursday to Friday, the mayor of Saint-Pierre-des-Corps, another town in the metropolis of Tours, was attacked during the riots.
