A reservist gendarme who was assigned to the fight against illegal immigration was found on Saturday on the Pauvres beach in Étaples “in a state of shock”, indicated the Boulogne-sur-Mer public prosecutor’s office, confirming information from the daily Nord Littoral. An investigation into kidnapping and intentional violence against a person holding public authority has been opened.

The 26-year-old gendarme, then off duty, was allegedly attacked by several migrants on the Plage des Pauvres in Étaples-sur-Mer around 8 p.m. “He indicated that he had been kidnapped in a vehicle which could correspond to a vehicle which could be involved in procedures to assist the entry and irregular stays” of migrants, said the prosecution.

Facts described as “atypical”

When emergency services arrived on scene, the man was in a state of shock and doctors noted knee injuries. He was taken to the Boulogne-sur-Mer hospital center. The reservist was prescribed 10 days of total incapacity for work, mainly due to “post-traumatic” shock, added the prosecution.

The investigation into these facts, described as “atypical”, was entrusted to the research brigade of the Écuires gendarmerie. No arrests have taken place at this stage.
