In the Orenburg region, after the mass death of people from counterfeit alcohol, 14 criminal cases were initiated, said the official representative of the Investigative Committee of Russia (TFR) Svetlana Petrenko. The total death toll from surrogate alcohol in the region has grown to 34. In total, 64 people have suffered from poisoning.

The investigation detained 15 suspects in the production and distribution of counterfeit goods. The mass poisoning of residents of the Orenburg region with surrogate alcohol became known on the night of October 7. The victims were identified in several localities in the region. Later, a warehouse of counterfeit alcohol was found on the territory of a trade and purchasing base in Orsk. During the search, over 1.2 thousand bottles without the necessary marking were seized there. Also in Orsk, a point of production, bottling and storage of these products was revealed, from where the investigators took more than 3 thousand bottles and equipment for the production of counterfeit products.
