The Investigative Committee for the Irkutsk Region opened a criminal case after a fire in the village of Khomutovo, which killed five people, including a teenager.

The fire was reported to emergency services early in the morning of January 1. A wooden two-story house was on fire. An investigative and operational group – employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, investigators and forensic experts – went to the scene. The fire killed three women, a man and an 11-year-old child. The owner of the house with injuries was hospitalized in the city hospital.

The causes of the fire are still unknown. Investigators of the UK and criminologists are still working at the scene. The criminal case was initiated under the article “causing death by negligence to two or more persons.”
