The Port Authority of Almería (Spain) plans to mobilize a public-private investment of 70 million euros in the ports of Almería and Carboneras during 2024, with a focus on industrial development from the perspective of “sustainability”. This was announced by Rosario Soto, president of the APA, during an informative breakfast in which she was accompanied by Ramón Fernández-Pacheco, Minister of Sustainability, Environment and Blue Economy.

Soto highlighted the export nature of the province of Almería and the need to adapt to environmental requirements to become a sustainable export power. The president of the APA revealed that the organization is already working on its first sustainable strategic development plan to guarantee the industrial development of its ports with solid environmental, social and economic guarantees.

Among the key projects is the construction of a sixth dock in the Port of Carboneras. The company Explotaciones Río de Aguas, belonging to the Torralba Group, will be in charge of this investment of approximately 26 million euros in the new dock, which will be 315 meters long and 14 meters deep, allowing ships of up to 50,000 tons to dock. . The project also includes a storage area of 55,166 square meters and 15,000 square meters of water surface, with the expectation of exporting at least four million tons of gypsum annually in a sustainable manner.

In addition, Soto mentioned the efforts of the APA to adapt the N341 highway, which connects the A7 with the port of Carboneras, and highlighted the importance of coordinating the construction of the new dock with the improvement of the N341 to avoid traffic problems in the future. .

Regarding the Port of Almería, the president of the APA stressed the need to directly connect the port facilities with the A7, which is waiting for the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda to tender the project. To alleviate the situation, the APA has requested authorization for a direct entrance to the Port of Almería from National 340, a project financed entirely with its own funds. It is expected that this work will be authorized before the end of the year and that the execution will take place in the first quarter of 2025.

Soto also reported on the expansion of the Pechina Pier, where 21 million euros will be invested, with the intention of putting the work out to tender in January 2024 and completing the 260-meter-long expansion by 2026.

On the other hand, the Port of Almería has received a new shipment of six wind turbine blades that will be transferred to Germany for the construction of a wind farm.
