by time news

Direct investments (PI) from Russia to Cyprus for the first time in the entire history of observations showed negative annual values, follows from the statistics of the Central Bank. In 2020, this figure amounted to almost minus $ 1.5 billion. At the same time, over the past five years, the size of PI in the republic varied from $ 9 billion to $ 20 billion. In 2019, it amounted to $ 14.4 billion. In fact, this means that Russian residents got rid of Cypriot property.

The Central Bank calculates the amount of PI as the difference between the purchase (deposit) and sale of financial assets – shares in the authorized capital, bonds, etc. Capital flows in the form of dividends and interest on loans are not reflected in the PI indicator. A representative of the Bank of Russia told Vedomosti that the regulator does not evaluate and analyze outgoing PI, but only collects statistics.
