The National Institute for Food and Drug Surveillance (Invima) has issued a health alert for products that are promoted as beneficial to health, but which lack the authorized health registration, and are being marketed illegally, exposing consumers to significant risks.

These are “Melatonin 3 mg J&M” and “Magnesium Citrate SN Nativa”two products that, despite not having the required certification, are still available on the market. Melatonin, generally used to treat sleep disorders, and magnesium citrate, promoted as a supplement to improve metabolic functions, have not undergone the necessary controls that guarantee their safety and efficacy.

Invima has identified that these products are being sold with labels containing misleading information.. In the case of «Melatonin 3 mg J&M», although a health registration number is presented, it has expired, which means that it does not have the updated approval of the regulatory body. On the other hand, «Magnesium citrate SN Nativa» has a supposed «Invima Certificate» with the number 20231175655, which, according to the entity, does not correspond to any valid registration.

The regulatory body has stressed that the marketing of these products is fraudulent. “Relevant aspects such as their composition, storage conditions, transport and distribution are unknown,” Invima stressed, making it clear that these factors are crucial to guarantee consumer safety.

In light of this situation, Invima has urged the population to avoid the purchase and consumption of these products, as they could represent a risk to health. In addition, the institution has reiterated the importance of verifying that supplements and medicines have a valid health registration before their acquisition.
