IOA announces Indian contingent for Commonwealth Games‍

New Delhi: Indian team for Commonwealth Games has been announced. The fight will be held in Birmingham, England later this month. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) announced the 322-member Indian contingent, including the players and officials.

India’s jumbo team consists of 215 athletes, 107 officials and support staff. The Commonwealth Games will be held from July 28 to August 8. In the 2018 Gold Coast Games, India finished third behind Australia and England in the medal hunt.

IOA Secretary Rajeev Mehta said that a strong team is being sent to the Commonwealth Games this time and although India’s medal hope is not competitive in the Shooting Games, it is hoped that the level will improve from the last time.

The Indian contingent will be staying at five Games Villages. Meanwhile, special accommodation has been arranged for the women’s cricket team in Birmingham. Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra will fly the Indian flag at the Games.

The Indian team consists of Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra, P Sindhu, Mirabhai Chanu, Lovlina Borgohen, Bajrang Punia, Ravikumar Dahiya, Manika Batra, Vinesh Phogat, Tajinderpal Singh, Hima Das and Amit Pankal.

Boxing Federation of India Vice President Rajesh Bhandari is the chief de mission of the team. India will compete in 15 events and four events in the Para category. Most of the team members have already arrived in Birmingham and started training.
