Ioana Konstantinova qualified for the third round of the girls’ singles at the European Under-18 Individual Tennis Championship in Austria.
The Bulgarian ranked number 12 in the scheme defeated Erin Pearce (Great Britain) 7:5, 7:6 (7:2). This is her second straight win at the tournament without losing a set. For a place in the quarterfinals, Konstantinova will play against Elishka Tichachkova (Czech Republic).
With the juniors, Georgi Georgiev had to play two matches today. In the first round, he defeated Ivan Biletik (Bosnia and Herzegovina) 6:3, 7:5. In the second match, the Bulgarian had a 6:7(6), 6:2, 4:0 lead against Gasper Matijasic (Slovenia) before the match was interrupted and postponed until tomorrow. If successful, Georgiev will also qualify for the third round.
In the girls’ doubles tournament, Ioana Konstantinova and Galena Krastenova beat Irem Kurt/Deniz Turan (Turkey) without a game.
Among the juniors, Georgi Georgiev and Viktor Kirov have to play their first round match tomorrow against Christos Glavas and Stefanos Pournaropoulos (Greece).
