Dano, December 21, 2023 (AIB) – The Provincial Council for the Elderly of Ioba Province, in collaboration with the Dano High Commission, celebrated their International Day on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 in Dano.

The commemorative ceremony of the International Day of the Elderly of Ioba was placed under the patronage of the Minister of Solidarity, Humanitarian Action, National Reconciliation, Gender and Family, represented by the project manager, Mariama Sylviane Zongo.

She had by her side the High Commissioner of the Ioba Province, president of the said ceremony, Bernadette Adenyo / Sermé.

This celebration was punctuated by interventions and some joking parenting sessions.

The president of the Provincial Council of the Elderly of Ioba, Dindomè Albert Somé, indicated that the elderly constitute the light that guides communities in the perpetuation of values.

The elderly, although few in number, deserved to have a day of their own, established by the United Nations, he continued.

They represent the rest of all those who have exhausted their moral, physical and intellectual strength in the service of their community, said Mr. Somé.

In addition to being engaged as volunteers for the defense of the homeland (VDP), elderly people can be actors for final victory in the fight against terrorism.

Indeed, they have their role in intelligence and especially in communication with God and the ancestors. He thanked the Minister of Humanitarian Action Nandy Somé / Diallo for agreeing to sponsor this day.

The Prefect, president of the Special Communal Delegation of Dano, Denis Zanré, praised the participants’ attachment to promoting the rights of elderly people and their full development through their presence at this ceremony.

He thanked the elderly who, despite the weight of age, still contribute to boosting the local economy.

The head of Dano canton, Naonfa 2, congratulated the president of the Provincial Council for the Elderly, Dindomè Albert Somé, and the members of his office for their dedication and the holding of this commemorative day.

For the High Commissioner of Ioba Province, Bernadette Adenyo / Sermé, in addition to the age criterion, the notion of elderly person includes wisdom, social behavior, family and community responsibility.

She invited the younger generations to continue to support them. Ms. Adenyo recognized and praised the invaluable contribution of the Minister of Humanitarian Action to the organization and success of this activity.

She thanked the Special Delegations of the municipalities of Dano and Koper, the Dreyer Foundation and the CEO of the companies Aly Maïga et fils for their support.

As for the project manager at the Ministry of Solidarity, Mariama Sylviane Zongo, it is not a single day that must be granted to the elderly person.

Being old is a grace and the elderly person is the bedrock of society, she added. The mission manager thanked the elderly for their wise advice and blessings to the authorities and people of this country. Mariama Sylviane Zongo invited elderly people to continue praying so that Burkina Faso will always remain.
