‘Golf queen’ Inbee Park (36, KB Financial Group), who is challenging for a seat on the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Athletes’ Commission, has entered the ‘battleground’ of Paris and is starting full-scale election campaigning.
Inbee Park entered France through Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport at dawn on the 23rd (Korean time). Her husband, swing coach Nam Ki-hyeop, also accompanied her.
Inbee Park, who met with News 1 immediately after entering the country, said, “I felt the Olympic atmosphere when I arrived at the Paris airport and saw athletes and officials from various countries,” and “I think it will feel even more real when I go to the athletes’ village tomorrow.”
Inbee Park, the gold medalist in women’s golf at the 2016 Rio Olympics, is challenging for the IOC Athletes’ Commission at this Olympics. The IOC Athletes’ Commission election will be held at polling stations set up in the athletes’ village and various stadiums, with over 10,000 Olympians casting their votes.
With only four candidates out of a total of 32 to qualify for the eight-year term as Athletes’ Commissioner, Inbee Park will become the third Korean athlete to achieve this feat, following Dae-Sung Moon (Taekwondo) and Seung-Min Ryu (Table Tennis), and the first Korean female athlete to do so. The final results will be announced on August 7 at the Main Press Center (MPC) in Palais des Congrès, Paris, France.
Inbee Park plans to quickly adjust to the time difference and begin campaigning the day after she returns to the country.
He said, “I plan to go straight to the athletes’ village and figure out the players’ movement routes,” and “I will start campaigning as soon as I arrive.”
Since I’m planning to have my second child this year, I can’t help but worry about my physical strength. So I’m thinking about moving as efficiently as possible.
Park In-bee said, “I am pregnant, so it is inevitable that I will feel physical strain,” but added, “I will do my best to achieve good results through the most efficient election campaign possible.”
With the opening ceremony of the Olympics just four days away, he also sent a message of support to the Korean athletes.
Inbee Park said, “I hope that you can perform to your best ability in the best condition possible, as you have worked hard to get to the Olympic stage,” and added, “The Olympics is a festival for sports enthusiasts around the world, so I hope that you can enjoy the atmosphere as well.”
