Apple will allow apps to be downloaded directly to iPhones, bypassing the App Store. This was reported by CNBC, Day.Az reports with reference to Lenta.ru.
The announcement said that this right will be available to consumers in the European Union (EU). iPhone owners will be able to download apps directly from developers’ websites. The new feature will be available later this spring.
However, software developers will have to meet certain criteria. In particular, they must have a popular app downloaded at least one million times in Europe. Apple will still charge a commission for in-app purchases.
“Distributing apps directly from a website requires responsibility and control over the user experience, including the ability to manage apps, provide customer support and refunds,” the corporation explained the restrictions. The changes are related to the Digital Markets Act (DMA), which came into force in March.
