Mumbai: The 51st match of IPL 2024 is being played between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday (May 3). KKR is in second place with 12 points from 9 matches, while Mumbai is in 9th place with 6 points from 10 matches. Wankhede Stadium and KKR co-owner Shahrukh Khan have a bit of a history. In May 2012, Shahrukh was barred from entering Wankhede after a scuffle and argument with security guards and MCA officials after an IPL match (in which KKR defeated Mumbai Indians). He was banned.
After that incident, a police complaint was filed against Shahrukh Khan. However, since it was a non-cognizable offence, he was not arrested.
Shahrukh Khan said that he was provoked after the security staff touched a group of children accompanying him (which included his daughter). The Mumbai Cricket Association had officially lifted the Wankhede Stadium ban imposed on Shahrukh Khan in 2015.
Was Shahrukh’s daughter mistreated?
Now, former KKR team director Joy Bhattacharjee spoke openly on the issue on Friday. Sharing a post on that incident, Bhattacharjee wrote, ‘Last time when KKR defeated MI at Wankhede, I was also a part of that dugout. It’s been a long time. But today could be that day! After that incident, KKR won two championships. Shahrukh Khan did not abuse, I was present there. And next time, when someone teases your little daughter, stay calm. Bhattacharjee tauntingly backed Shahrukh Khan. Since 2012, Shahrukh Khan has not been seen again at Wankhede Stadium.
