The president Claudia Sheinbaum shared that the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) will have 30 thousand extra seats during his six-year term; Together with other university institutions, there will be 330 thousand extra places.
From the morning conference on October 23, the head of the Ministry of Public Education (SEP), Mario Delgado, shared the commitment of increase the educational workforce to 300 thousand new students in public and free universities in Mexico during the government of Claudia Sheinbaum.
IPN will have 30 thousand new places during Claudia Sheinbaum’s six-year term
The president Claudia Sheinbaum She recalled that “for years” spaces in public universities were closed as “part of the neoliberal model” which, according to the president, considered education more as a privilege than as a right.
Likewise, he highlighted as a “neoliberal” process that only those who passed the admission exam could have the possibility of studying at a university or in the IPN.
“In reality, the entrance exams were nothing more than a funnel. And it is not that the students were not prepared, because they leave public institutions of higher secondary education, high schools, high schools, Conalep, that is, the Ministry of Public Education itself gives them a certificate that they are prepared for the next level. , and admission exams were held, they still are, with the idea that, if access is closed, if it is increasingly difficult, then excellent professionals will emerge. And in reality what there was was a closure of the possibility of studying in public universities”

For this reason, he highlighted, as reported by the head of the SEP, that during his administration the IPN will open 30 thousand new places so that families do not have to resort to private universities in search of education.
IPN: Other universities will also have more places during Claudia Sheinbaum’s government
According to Mario Delgado, head of the SEP, they will seek increase the educational workforce of higher level to 300 thousand new students during the government of Claudia Sheinbaum.
This will be achieved by increasing the number of places for students in the IPN for 30 thousand students; while for other universities and institutions it will be:
- Rosario Castellanos University: 150 thousand new students
- Health University: 25 thousand
- Universities for Wellbeing Benito Juárez García: 40 thousand
- National Technological Institute of Mexico: 85 thousand
With this, there will be a total of 330 thousand new higher education students between 2024 and 2030.
