Even before the opening of polling stations, Iranian army servicemen detained terrorists who were preparing terrorist attacks during the Iranian presidential elections.
As reported by Day.Az with reference to TASS, this was stated by the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of the Islamic Republic Majid Mirahmadi.
“Before the elections, terrorists who were preparing terrorist attacks entered the country, they were detained by the military, and the terrorist movement suffered a complete defeat,” the IRIB television channel quotes him as saying.
The deputy head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs specified that the criminals “planned to organize terrorist operations in order to create an atmosphere of instability in the state and make people afraid to go to the ballot boxes.”
Iranian Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi noted that 180,000 law enforcement officers were ensuring order at polling stations.
On June 28, the first round of presidential elections was held in Iran. Four candidates participated in it. None of them received more than 50% of the votes, which would have ensured victory in the first round. Former Health Minister Masoud Pezeshkian (reformist, 42.5% of the votes in the first round) and the representative of the spiritual leader of Iran in the Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili (conservative, 38.6% of the votes in the first round) advanced to the second round, which is scheduled for July 5, by a large margin.
