The Kremlin responded to the request and has already started supplying modern radars and air defense systems.

Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu met in Tehran on Monday with Iran’s new president Massoud Pezeshkian and the commander of Iran’s armed forces, Brigadier General Mohammad Bagheri, who is responsible for planning military strikes against Israel.

Shoigu also met with the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.

The Wall Street Journal reports that two Iranian officials familiar with military planning confirmed that Iran had made such a request and said that Russia had begun supplying advanced radars and air defense systems.

“We are ready to fully cooperate with Iran on regional issues,” Shoigu was quoted as saying by Iranian state media.

General Bagheri Shoigu said the relationship between the two countries is “deep, long-term and strategic” and will only expand under Iran’s new government.

According to the “Wall Street Journal”, Shoigu’s visit emphasizes the close alliance between Iran and Russia, which has strengthened with Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Iran has supplied Russia with military drones, and the two countries recently signed an agreement to expand military and intelligence cooperation.

Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has ordered a direct strike from Iran on Israel, after Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of the Palestinian radical movement “Hamas” was killed in an explosion in Tehran.

Iran and Hamas blame Israel for the attack on Hani.

US and Israeli officials predict that Iran and its allies in the region will launch a coordinated attack on Israel.

Groups in the so-called axis of resistance include Lebanon’s Shiite militia Hezbollah and Yemen’s Houthi rebels.
