(ANSA) – ISTANBUL, JULY 4 – Masoud Pezeshkian, a politician considered moderate and part of the reformist front, is ahead of the ultraconservative Saeed Jalili in the polls for the runoff in the presidential elections to be held tomorrow in Iran. In the surveys by Ispa, a company linked to the state, Pezeshkian obtained 49.5% of the consensus against 43.9% for Jalili while 6.6% of the interviewees are undecided. For the company Porsesh, the reformist candidate instead reaches about 53% of the consensus while the ultraconservative stops at 41%, with 6% of those entitled to vote still undecided. During the first round of the elections, last Friday, Pezeshkian came first with 42.5% of the votes while Jalili was placed second, obtaining a consensus of 38.6%. Last Friday’s vote recorded the lowest turnout in the history of the Islamic Republic, with less than 40% of eligible voters deciding to go to the polls. (ANSA).
