Relations between Iran and Europe will improve only if European countries stop following US instructions. This opinion was expressed by the official representative of the Islamic Republic’s Foreign Ministry Nasser Kanani, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.

“Coldness in relationships [между Ираном и Европой] is a direct result of pressure from the US or their own miscalculations. If Europe pursues an independent policy towards Iran, we will definitely see an improvement in relations,” Tasnim news agency quotes him as saying. As Kanani noted, Europe is one of the priority areas of Iran’s foreign policy, but “there is no positive dynamics in relations that correspond to the existing opportunities,”

On July 15, the European Union extended sanctions against Iran for its support for Russia and for Tehran’s alleged destabilization of the Middle East and the Red Sea region until July 27, 2025. The list includes 12 individuals and nine organizations. The restrictions include entry bans for individuals, blocking financial assets in European jurisdictions, and a ban on providing loans, investments, or other funds.

Iran is subject to three EU sanctions mechanisms. The first targeted Tehran’s nuclear and missile programs, the second arose over allegations of human rights violations, and the third, introduced in 2023, is linked to allegations of military supplies to Russia and Syria.
