US Secretary of State Antony Blinken told the G7 foreign ministers that Iran and the Shiite Hezbollah movement could launch an attack on Israel within the next 24 hours.

This was reported by the portal Axios with reference to sources, reports Day.Az with reference to TASS.

According to their information, Blinken initiated a telephone conversation with his G7 colleagues to try to put diplomatic pressure on Iran and Hezbollah to minimize the force of their strike, which would be a response to the assassination of the head of the Palestinian Hamas political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran. In the conversation, the US Secretary of State emphasized that mitigating the consequences of a possible attack would be the best way to prevent a full-scale war in the region.

Blinken is convinced Iran and Hezbollah will strike the Jewish state, the sources said, but it is unclear what that would be. He noted that the U.S. is trying to limit the attack and then mitigate any possible Israeli response.

According to the publication’s interlocutors, the head of the American state policy department also expressed disappointment with the impact of the escalation of the Middle East conflict on the ceasefire talks in the Gaza Strip. Blinken said during the conversation that the American administration felt before Haniyeh’s murder that the parties were closer than ever to concluding a deal.
