Iranian engineers have developed new models of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) Shahed-238, equipped with homing heads and capable of hitting air targets.

Army Recognition reports that the drone is available in three modifications, each designed to perform different tasks.

One version is designed for standard missions. The second model has an infrared seeker, uses inertial and satellite navigation, and is designed to strike moving targets. The third modification appears to have an anti-radar seeker and is aimed at enemy radar systems.

Based on the characteristics of the drones with homing systems, they are capable of hitting both ground and air targets. It is reported that Shahed-238 was able to intercept the American MQ-9 Reaper drone.

Despite its external similarity to the Shahed-136, the Shahed-238 differs in the layout of the engine compartment, which houses a heavier Toloue-10 mini-turbojet engine.

Technical parameters of Shahed-238 include:

  • length 3.5 m;
  • wingspan 3 m;
  • speed up to 600 km/h;
  • impact speed over 700 km/h;
  • maximum flight altitude of about 9,144 m;
  • flight duration 2 hours;
  • maximum take-off weight 380 kg;
  • GPS/INS and GNSS guidance systems.

It should be noted that the Shahed-238 kamikaze jet drone, developed by HESA Shahed, was presented at an exhibition of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in November 2023. In January 2024, it became known about its use by Russia in the war against Ukraine.

Earlier, Cursor reported that Israel has no strategy against Hezbollah’s new drones.
