/ Mizan News Agency, affiliated with the Iranian judiciary, reported that the authorities carried out the death sentence on Tuesday, accused of killing a police officer and wounding 5 others, after running them over with a car during a protest movement that swept the country in 2022.

The death of a young Iranian Kurdish woman, Mahsa Amini, while in police custody in September 2022, sparked anti-government protests that continued for months, in the largest manifestations of opposition to the authorities in years. She was arrested on charges of violating the country’s Islamic dress code.

The agency said: “After the Supreme Court’s approval, the death sentence was carried out against the accused, Muhammad Qabadlo, early this morning.”

In addition to the death sentence for murder, Qubadlo was sentenced to another death sentence for “spreading corruption on earth.”

For her part; Amnesty International said Qabadlo’s right to a fair trial was “violated” and that the Iranian judicial system “did not take into account his bipolar disorder.”

The organization said: “Gubadlo was sentenced to two death sentences after extremely unfair sham trials, which were marred by ‘confessions’ tainted by torture, and the failure to order accurate evaluations of his mental health, despite his mental problem.”

The agency said that the allegations related to the mental problem were “untrue” because the accused denied them during his trial.
