Iran seizes two Greek oil tankers and its crew Greece has warned that the two ships captured by Iran should be released immediately.
The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs has warned that Iran’s actions could have a negative impact on bilateral relations.

Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard, two Iranian oil tankers, were captured in the media yesterday (Friday, May 27, 2022) in the Gulf of Persia.
Greece recently captured an Iranian oil tanker allegedly violating sanctions in the Mediterranean. Greece did this at the request of the United States.
Tensions between Iran and the West have already escalated as talks on a nuclear deal stalled.

Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard has accused unnamed tankers of committing atrocities in a statement posted on its website.
The Greek Foreign Ministry is in talks with the Iranian ambassador to Athens over the “seizure of two ships loaded with Greek flags” in the Persian Gulf.
“These actions are tantamount to the actions of pirates,” the Greek ministry said in a statement.

An Iranian helicopter landed on a Greek-flagged ship ‘Delta Poseidon’ in international waters 22 nautical miles off the coast of Iran, according to a statement from the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday.
“Armed men later captured the group,” the statement said.
“A similar incident was reported on another Greek flagged ship carrying seven Greek civilians off the coast of Iran,” the ministry said. The second ship was identified as the Prudent Warrior.
Polembros Shipping in Greece, the owner of the ship, commented on the matter. “We are cooperating with the authorities and making every effort to deal with the situation effectively,” the captured shipping company said.
