Iran has increased its stockpile of enriched uranium to levels close to what is needed for the production of weapons, contrary to international requirements, according to a credible report presented on Thursday by the World Nuclear Organization destruction

A report from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), seen by The Associated Press, indicates that as of August 17, Iran has 164.7 kilograms of uranium that is 60% enriched. It is an increase of 22.6 kilograms since the most recent IAEA report issued in May.

Uranium enriched to 60% purity is a short technological step away from reach levels suitable for the production of nuclear weapons, which is 90%.

The IAEA report indicates that Tehran has not yet revised its September 2023 decision to ban more nuclear inspectors from monitoring its nuclear program, and that IAEA surveillance cameras remain operational.
