“I am glad to see how quickly our relations are developing at all levels. The new government of Iran is seriously aimed at strengthening these ties,” Aref said.
He emphasized that cooperation with Russia is one of the priorities of Iranian foreign policy. “In the new government, we insist on a pragmatic approach and strive to ensure that the negotiations and signed agreements are implemented as soon as possible,” he added. According to him, “the two countries’ shared experience in resisting illegal Western sanctions and the need for cooperation to neutralize them requires that Iran and Russia work together at all levels.”
Aref also noted the importance of strengthening regional cooperation, even on controversial issues such as the Iranian islands in the Persian Gulf and the Zangezur transport corridor. “We emphasize that any border change could lead to instability and create opportunities for intervention by non-regional powers,” he said.
Speaking about economic cooperation, the vice president said that trade turnover between the two countries amounts to 2.5 million euros and expressed hope that through joint efforts this figure will increase to a “decent level.”
