Tehran has announced that it will receive 300 million cubic meters of Russian gas per day, under a recent agreement with Moscow.

Iranian Oil Minister Javad Owji said on Wednesday that “under the 30-year contract, the surplus gas imported from Russia will be exported to other countries in the region.”

According to the Iranian News Agency, Oji indicated that “the annual financial value of this contract ranges between 10 and 12 billion dollars.”

Last June, Russian energy giant Gazprom signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Iranian Gas Company to supply gas via a pipeline to Iran.

Iranian Oil Minister Javad Owji had previously stated that “the agreement signed between Iran and Russia regarding the transfer of gas will turn Tehran into a gas hub in the region.”

A few days ago, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Mojtaba Demirchi announced that his country would “soon” sign a comprehensive cooperation agreement with Russia.

According to the Iranian News Agency (IRNA), Demirji added, “The agreement has been on the agenda of relations between the two countries for nearly two years.”

It is noteworthy that the cooperation agreement, which lasts for 20 years, was announced about two and a half years ago, during a visit by the late Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to Moscow, and his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

At that time, Raisi announced that “this agreement will serve as a roadmap for achieving a leap in comprehensive relations between the two countries.”
