Iran has always been and is now ready for all negotiations on the nuclear program, taking into account all the rights of its people.

As reported by Day.Az on Tuesday, newly elected Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated this during a telephone conversation with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, which took place on July 22.

According to M. Pezeschkian, the United States first withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which was signed and implemented between Iran and the 5+1 group (USA, Russia, China, Great Britain, France and Germany), and then imposed the toughest sanctions against Iran.

The Iranian president said that Iran nevertheless declares its readiness for negotiations.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida also expressed hope for the restoration of the nuclear deal in a telephone conversation, saying the international community, including Japan, has high hopes for an effective agreement by the new Iranian government in this regard.

Kishida noted that Japan is also willing to play a constructive role between the two sides to restore the JCPOA, given its traditional friendly relations with Iran and close relations with the United States.

During the telephone conversation, the parties held talks on developing relations between Iran and Japan.

Let us recall that in January 2016, Iran and the 5+1 group (USA, Russia, China, UK, France and Germany) implemented a Comprehensive Plan of Action on the Iranian nuclear program. In May 2018, the US announced its withdrawal from this plan, and in November of the same year, it imposed sanctions against Iran.

At the end of 2020, the Iranian parliament, citing the imposition of sanctions against the country, decided to implement the Strategic Nuclear Plan to lift the sanctions. In accordance with the decision of the Iranian parliament on February 23 of the same year, Iran suspended the implementation of additional steps and the Additional Protocol provided for in the nuclear agreement. Thus, the capabilities of the IAEA verification mechanism were reduced by 20-30%.
